Gravel is a naturally occurring material that does not require additional processing, as it is excavated already suitable for use. Gravel was formed over hundreds of years by the subsidence of igneous and metamorphic rocks. In the composition of gravel, particles of granite, gneiss, limestone, dolomite, quartz are most often found.

Gravel in Lithuania is widely mined in quarries, and can be of various colors. Its color depends on the color of the rock debris in it. Gravel consists of pulverized particles and can have a density of between 1.75 and 1.8 t/m3.


Options for the use of gravel:

  • In construction, gravel is most often used to mix concrete mixtures, it is one of the main components of the concrete mix. Concrete and gravel mixtures are especially popular for masonry, foundation pouring. Before mixing with concrete, it is recommended to sift the gravel so that there are no lumps of clay that reduce the strength of the concrete.
  • Gravel is also used for road construction and drainage. Fractional gravel is used to drain water from the road, ditches and slopes are also fixed with it. The paths are leveled with gravel before the asphalt pavement begins to be laid.
  • Gravel is an excellent conductor of water, making it ideal for drainage applications. It does not clog the drainage pipe, but rather strengthens it.
  • Gravel can also be used to decorate the yard or garden. Choosing gravel with pebbles of the right size will allow you to stretch paths with it or liven up decorating areas. For garden paths, it is recommended to choose gravel with medium-sized pebbles, as they will not carry you around the territory so quickly and are more comfortable for walking. For decoration areas, finer gravel is recommended. The most important aspect for decorating areas gravel edging. Stones, bricks, wood, tiles can be used for it, the main thing is that the gravel is not washed out.
